Practice - Just doing it!

I'm a lousy blogger! I know! I Blog when I remember that I have forgotten about blogging for a while!

Consistency is the key!
How do you make an effort to...make an effort? If you get what I mean. Getting my head straight now seems to be the easy piece! It’s being consistently good at keeping the physical side of my stammer in check is now the struggle!

I need help with a couple of things I am struggling with; the first is how do I exercise during the winter months? For the summer I used get up and either go for a walk or a good cycle before work most mornings, 6am - It was bright, sunny and for the most part dry. Even when I slept in I could go out for an hour after work. Now I get up and its dark, I get home - and it’s dark. I have an exercise bike but it’s not the same. Has anyone any good ideas on how I can turn this around??

The second thing is to do directly with using a technique to break out of a block. When it does happen - As I've said I can pretty much keep control of my "negative self" but when things do slip I need to be able - and confident that I can break out quickly and effectively every time - reboot - gather my thoughts and continue with what I was saying. I'm going to explore this a bit more over the coming days/weeks (and hopefully get my thoughts and yours) on how best to structure this.

Always..Thanks for reading this and a special thanks to my one new Follower!! hey I must be getting good at this blogging lark!

Hi, Interesting the stage you are at with regard to the stammer. I was there myself at 35. Its gone now thank God, to all intents and purposes.

First off only think positive. concentrate only WHAT you have to say. Use whatever technique, suits you best. I outlined my own technique to unblock on boards. I also found it useful to start off a syllable, using "EH". These are very similar to The "UGH" sound I've mentioned on boards. Ok Why you ask? Well lets say the word is DUCK and you're stuck. It becomes "ED-UCK". Vowels are easier as no movement of tongue, lips are required. Its always the first phonetic sound of a syllable is the problem. I would also try reading eg a novel out loud in private, to help re-establish fluency. Or just whisper it - mouth movements are the same. Finally don't rush, you're looking at progress year on year. Keep the faith - Don.

Hi,

Just found your blog again. Good to see you still doing your stuff.

Sorry, help with the excercise part. I do try and go for a good brisk walk most days.

I think you're on the right track with the reboot part. If you notice that when non-stammers do stammer then they stop themselves, say something silly and then start again. Kind of a reboot.

One of my approachs at the moment is to really try and see what is going on when in a block. What am I doing, thinking, feeling, how does it continue, how does it end.

Another approach is to try and improve my overall voice quality, e.g. talk from the stomach, put passion and control into the whole communication.

Cheers,

Paul
